Welcome to Aussiekid’s travel blog. Thanks for visiting!
I’m Tara Marlow. I’m an an Australian photographer and travel blogger, living in the U.S. I’ve been fortunate to travel throughout Australia, the U.S., the U.K. and Europe. Travel is in my veins, as well as photography and writing.
My photographic focus is on nature, but I’ve also been known to capture the odd wedding or special event. I love to tell the story through my photographs, to capture the essence of a place or feeling. But sometimes you have to say a bit more… so I love to share my travel experiences through this travel blog along with my photographs.
This blog is categorized into a few themes.
Theme #1 – RTW Planning and Beyond. That is, traveling the World in 2018…and then moving to Australia.
Along with my husband Richard, we are planning a world adventure once our daughter Natalie graduates high school in just under 5 years. Yes, it’s a long way off, but not only are we planning on selling everything, including house, cars etc, but we also plan on settling in Australia when the trip is complete. Unlike most, having a ‘re-entry’ experience back into their pre-RTW life, we are planning a new life in Australia. It’s been 20 years since I left and after exploring the world, I want to go home. So our posts will include preparing for the RTW adventure as well as preparing for our move.
Theme #2 – Adventures in the Meantime
Until then, we will travel where we can, while we can. We currently live near Austin, Texas. It’s a great base to be and everything is within ‘easy’ distances. The thought is to see as much of the United States, and maybe even Canada and South America while we are still here. Besides, our daughter has the travel bug too and we certainly don’t want her to miss the travel opportunities!
Also included in this section are updates about Aussiekid Photography. At the moment, this is the ‘income’ for me – well, kinda. I sell my photographs through my website as well as at local markets. This is where the market events can be found.
Theme #3 – Random Travel Stuff. Travel Tips, Thoughts etc..
Since we are already travelers, we have experience with planning, packing, etc and are happy to share that helpful information. We also host guest blogs here. If you would like to contribute, email us with your idea.
Publications and Associations:
I’m proud to say I have been published in ‘Art of Backpacking‘ and ‘Texas Outside”. I am also a member of Matador, StumbleUpon, Travel Blog Exchange and The International Travel Writers Alliance.
Some interesting things I’ve done along the way…
• Rode a camel in the Northern Territory
• Was chased by an Emu in Queensland (after the chips I was holding)
• Whitewater rafted in Tasmania
• Hunkered down during two tornadoes in Texas
• Enjoyed champagne and caviar on a French Naval Ship
• Snorkelled off the Big Island of Hawaii
• Ziplined in Hawaii
• Slept underground in Coober Pedy
and have many more adventures to come…
Feel free to share your comments, your experiences, your ‘must-see’ wish lists with us. We hope you enjoy reading about our journey and would love to hear about yours.
If you are wondering WHO IS Aussiekid Online? Read on…
I’m forty-something. I’m a wife to a wonderfully supportive man and a mother to a hormonal 13 year old daughter (but I still love her). I have family and friends throughout the world who are unbelievably supportive and when I told them I was quitting my corporate job, they said ‘about time!’ Others were green with envy of what the next adventure would be for me. That was sweet.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to travel. I really had no ambitions to become a doctor or lawyer, only to travel. Ironically, I had no plans to go to America either, other than to see Disneyland and that was ‘checked off’ on Trip #1.
I have lofty dreams – I dream of traveling the country in an RV or a caravan. I think that would be great. I would love to homeschool my daughter to give her a greater experience than Central Texas, but I don’t think I could hack that quite honestly. The schooling part I mean. Besides, she needs to the social life of school. I just so want to bring the worldly experiences into my daughter’s life, as well as my husband’s.
I have the desire to move and to keep moving. And photograph everything in my path.
